Missing natural teeth as a result of dental caries, periodontal diseases, developmental disorders and dental trauma has a huge impact on the patient regarding appearance, nutrition, and speech. It may be a normative need to replace lost dental tissues with artificial biocompatible and cost-effective material. The department of Prosthodontics is involved in teaching dental students on different approaches to replacing missing teeth, other oral hard tissues and soft tissues, thereby restoring the lost function, esthetics and elevating psychosocial aspects of the quality of life of patients.

This department also has clinical expertise in maxillofacial prosthodontics, which involves rehabilitation of patients who have undergone radical surgery to remove oral cancers, malignant and benign tumors, maxillofacial trauma and having developmental anomalies. Working as a multidisciplinary team consisting of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons, oncologists, radiologists and speech therapists facilitate achieving an optimal, durable outcome.
