The Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, ceremonially welcomed its
5th batch of undergraduate students on 16 th December at the Senate Board Room of the
University.
The event was honoured by the presence of Senior Professor M. M. Pathmalal, the Vice
Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, who addressed the new entrants and the
parents and highlighted the values of discipline, academic excellence, and the rich heritage of the
University.
The Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences, Professor Priyake Palipana, delivered an address
outlining the structure of the dental curriculum, available academic resources, and the facilities
provided to support students throughout their training. The ceremony was further enriched by the
presence of Senior Professor Surangi G. Yasawardene, the Founder Dean of the Faculty.
A warm welcome was extended to the students by Dr. Dinithi Ekanayake, Coordinator of the
Orientation Programme, who highlighted the importance of commitment, professionalism, and
adaptability as they begin their academic journey.
The ceremony was honoured by the presence of the distinguished academic staff of the Faculty
of Dental Sciences, whose expertise, mentorship, and dedication play a central role in shaping
future dental professionals. Members of the faculty and university administrative staff were also
in attendance, including Mr. A. B. Weliwita (Registrar, University of Sri Jayewardenepura), Mrs.
Viraji Erandima (Assistant Registrar, Faculty of Dental Sciences), and Mrs. Priyangika
Chandradasa (Acting Bursar, University of Sri Jayewardenepura).
